Since 2003, Kwara State has become a major investment destination in the country. As the State opens up to new businesses, opportunities also expand. The entrance into the State of the Dangote Flour Mill has further broadened opportunities for employment. These opportunities are bound to increase with the company’s planned expansion in both direct and indirect employment like transportation, supplies, dealership, marketing, etc.

The revival of the moribund Kwara Furniture Company, now known as the Kwara Ethnix Company has opened another windows of employment opportunities in the State. Although this company is easily one of the oldest in the State, it has been on the verge of total collapse until last year when through the government’s investment drive, a leading furniture manufacturing company in South Africa, The Ethnix Designs, bought into the company and brought it back to life. Currently, the company employs about 65 staff, with many of them receiving further training in South Africa.

For those seeking employment in the formal sectors, government has assisted with skills improvements at various levels. Apart from giving hands on advice and coaching on job interviews, the youth employment office actually investigates and provides information on job opportunities across the country. In addition, government also award stipends to assist transportation of genuine applicants to interview venues. With this support, many have secured employment in banks and various other companies.
