Responsibilities
This ministry has been redundant for many years, until the emergence of Dr Bukola Saraki led administration which came to power in 2003, hence the full utilization of the ministry by going into private/public partnership with O’la Kleen. Ever since then, the entire nooks and crannies of Kwara State have been very clean.
- Formulates and enforce policies, rules and regulations on the general environmental protection, control and regulation of the ecological system, industrial and domestic wastes management including solid waste collection and disposal, appropriate management of liquid wastes and effluents among others; conductpublic enlightenment and disseminate vital information on environmental and ecological matters.
- Provision of forest resources for industrial and domestic use; Management of Wildlife.
- Ensuring that ecosystems species and genes of all life are not destroyed since all human being depend largely on bio-diversity for sustenance.
- Sanitize and regulate the social environment that surrounds hospitality industry.
Achievements
The present administration since inception in 2003, realized that clean environment means good health, has under this ministry achieved as under-listed:
- Environmental cleanliness and beautification of Ilorin the State Capital and headquarters of all the 16 Local government areas.
- Construction of integrated Solid Waste Management Facility in Ilorin.
- Forest and savannah regeneration to combat environmental degradation.
