Responsibilities

Ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs is charged with the responsibilities of dealing with matters affecting local government areas and Traditional Rulers in the state. This ministry also coordinates and implements policies and programmes of the state executive’s council’s conclusion related to local government areas and chieftaincy affairs in the state.

In the past one year remarkable achievements have been made by the three Directorates making up the Ministry- namely, Local Government Inspectorate, Chieftaincy Affairs and Personnel Finance and Supply.

Achievements

  • Regular training/workshops for key officials of local governments to sensitize them on the principles of effective governance.
  • The State Government demonstrated her keen interest in the wellbeing of our Traditional Chiefs by distributing factory built ten Volvo Limousine vehicle cars to all the First Class Emirs and Obas in the state as their official Vehicles and 10 Toyota Hilux pick-up as Pilot Vehicles.
  • Construction of ten Guest Chalets for first class graded Chiefs in the State.
  •  Again the state government is constructing Reception in the palaces of four first class Emirs and Obas: Etsu Patigi, Olupo of Ajasse-Ipo, Emir of Lafiagi and Elese of Igbaja.
  • The salaries and allowances of Traditional Rulers are being paid promptly and arrangement is now on for the upward review of their salaries and allowances.
  • The State Government takes the responsibilities of the treatment of any ailment of any category of Traditional Rulers in the State.
  • Construction of a modern Palace for the Chief of Banni in Kaiama Local Government Area.
  • Establishment of three Zonal Inspection Offices to enhance better supervision of Local Government Areas in the state.
  • Implementation of recommendation by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry on financial transaction of local government areas to sanitize their affairs.
  • Purchase of 3 drilling rigs for the three Senatorial Districts through the Joint Project Scheme, geared towards provision of portable water for the people at the grass root.
  • Purchase of 25 Police Patrol Vans which were donated to the State Police Command to assist in the maintenance of Law and Order in the State.
  • His Excellency, Dr. Bukola Saraki the Executive Governor of Kwara State released various sums of money from Excess Crude Fund to Local Government Areas for the execution of projects. Such projects include: a. installation of two transformers at Offa and Ilorin South, rehabilitation of High and Magistrate Courts and their quarters at Jebba in Moro Local Government Area.
  • Others are conversion of Hand Pump Boreholes to Motorized boreholes in Ilorin West, support the victims of rainstorm in Ganmo and Share in Ifelodun Local Government Areas. While Baruten and Kaiama were given some sum of money for the execution of various projects.
