Responsibilities

The ministry was established in 2003 with three Directorates namely: Personnel, Finance and Supply, Youth and Sports. The ministry is saddled with the following roles:

• Coordinating of all the activities in both Youth and Sports as highlighted.
• To see to the development of Sports in the States.
• Monitoring the Sport activities in the State.
• To search for Talents to represent the state at both National and International Competitions.
• Preparation of youth to participate in national development.
• Provision of opportunities for the Youth to acquire the appropriate Skills and Abilities.
• Training of the minds of Youth in the understanding of the world around them.

Achievements

His Excellency successes as recorded by the role of the Ministry include the following:

• Provision of an enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state thereby creating opportunities to win many laurels for the state both nationally and internationally.
• Availability of youth programmes to tackle the multidimensional youth problems across the state such as the appointment of youth coordinators to register unemployed youths, the building of the N250 million youth skills Acquisition center for the mass training of artisans at Yikpata, Registration of Voluntary Youth organization Citizenship and Leadership Training programme etc. 
• Some staffers of the Sports Council were sent to the National Institute for Sports Lagos for various courses ranging from 6 Months to 1 Year to improve their academic standard.
• The State Government has spent a reasonable amount of fund in sponsoring many sporting competitions both National and International.
