| Kwara State Government to establish Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution |

The
Kwara State Government has approved the establishment of a Centre of
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) for the State to mediate in civil
cases. Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Alhaji Saka Isau (SAN) disclosed this on Wednesday at Government House, Ilorin, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting. The commissioner, who explained that the ADR would be established by law through a bill to be sent to the State House of Assembly, said it is a place where disputants can amicably settle minor quarrels without necessarily going through the normal court process. According to him, the centre would have a designated Judge or Magistrate to be appointed by the Chief Judge adding that a Memorandum of Understanding would be reached by both parties at the end of the resolution. The Centre, Isau added, will also provide free legal services to defend INDIGENTS who could not afford to pay for the services of a lawyer. In another development, the State Government has approved the construction of 400 metres long fly-over in Ilorin, the State Capital to ensure free flow of traffic around the post-office area of the metropolis. Commissioner for Works and Transport, Barrister Rasaq disclosed this at a joint press briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting. The first fly-over to be constructed anywhere in the State, the Commissioner stated, has been awarded to Setraco Nig. Limited at a cost of N2.3billion and is expected to be completed within 22 months from the date of mobilization. The fly-over project, which is to commence in the next three weeks would be constructed over the Ilorin Post-Office roundabout and is expected to have features like walkways landscape areas, culverts and two lay bars. Similarly, council has also approved the construction and rehabilitation of a number of roads network to facilitate easy movement of people and goods within the State. The roads, according to Atunwa, include the 14.8km. Idofian-Fufu-Lajiki road awarded to Saladin Nig. Limited at a cost of over N230million with a 9 month completion period, and three selected asphalt overlay road in Offa, headquarters of Offa Local Government Areas. The three selected roads in Offa which have been awarded to Network Construction Company at a cost of over N200 million with six months completion period are Total-GRA junction, Church and Owode roads. The Commissioner disclosed further that all the newly awarded roads would be funded through the State joint Local Government account. Earlier, the new Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Hon. AbdulMumin Sidiq-Katibi had sought cooperation of the entire journalists in the State and promised to discharge his responsibilities faithfully as expected.
