Saraki rallies support for MDGs PDF Print E-mail
Governor Abubakar Bukola Saraki of Kwara State has enjoined the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Office and other stakeholders to work together to sustain the current level of achievement. 

The governor made the call at the formal launching of the ‘MDGs 2006 Report’ describing the report as a critical tool for public awareness and human capital development. 

The governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, State Planning Commission, Mr. Osuolale Ajayi, said MDGs are eight time-bond, qualified targets for addressing extreme poverty, promoting gender equality, education, health and environmental sustainability. 

According to him, MDGs, which realizations are targeted at 2015, are in consonance with Universal Declaration on Human Rights as well as United Nations (UN) Millennium Declaration. 

He praised the people of Nigeria and those in authority for articulating a development strategy based on global practices. 

The launching which took place at Yebumot Hotel, Ilorin weekend, was at the instance of the state government in conjunction with United Nations Development Programme Office in the State. 

Reviewing the report, the State Focal Officer for UNDP Assisted Programmes, Alhaji Lameed Olawumi Alabi said the measure was a way of bridging the gap to make its achievement by 2015 a reality.
