FG COMMITTED TO OVERHAULING OF POWER SECTOR SARAKI |

The Kwara State Governor, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki at the weekend said the Federal Government is fully committed to executing the proposed 5.4 billion dollars power sector overhaul to ensure that transformation of the system.
The governor who disclosed this while receiving the Kwara State House of Assembly resolution on the power project, from the speaker, Hon. Isa Bio Ibrahim at the Kwara chamber said that governors will be representative in the committee to implement the huge project with the said amount.
According to him, the concept on ground is quite different from the initial methods where huge amount of money would be sunk on a project without any thing to show for it.
“We have resolved that we shall be fully involved in the Federal Government venture for better result”.
The governor who received the support of the legislators for the utilization of the state and the local government councils share of the excess crude oil saving for National Emergency Projects Special Intervention Fund, said that it is a monumental project and we must not fail”.
He said that every stakeholder must be seen playing a vital role in the salvaging of the power sector through proper utilization of funds.
Presenting the House’s resolution, the speaker of the house, Hon. Isa Bio Ibrahim noted that section 120, sub-section 4 of the 1999 Nigerian constitution empower the legislature to authorized appropriation of state funds.
He said that considering the important of the projects at hand to the lives of Nigerians, the assembly “has no option but to support it”.
Bio noted that the federal government would contribute $2.463 billion or 45.88 percent, state $1.948billion or 36.25 percent, while local government across the country would put in a total of $963.5 million or 17.87 percent of the needed amount.
He disclosed that the sharing formula for the Kwara State and the 16 local governments put together equal $50.792 million.
