Kwara State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki, at the weekend advised the 36 States Houses of Assembly to fast-track the process of making resolutions on the utilization of State and Local Government Share of Excess Crude Savings Account for the National Emergency Project. He said this will enable the Federal Government commence the intervention fund next month. Saraki stated this in Ilorin while receiving the resolution of the State Assembly on the utilization of State and Local Government Share of Excess Crude Savings Account for the National Emergency Project. He expressed confidence that the intervention function would help to raise the level of power generation, pointing out that the Governors’ forum took the decision few months ago to make stakeholders to join Federal Government in funding the sector in order to permanently address the poor power generation in the country. He praised the Kwara State House of Assembly for ensuring the speedy passage of the resolution and called on other Houses of Assembly in the country to pass similar resolution by the end of this month to ensure the take-off of the utilization of the Intervention Fund. Governor Saraki said he was aware that some state Houses of Assembly had passed the resolution and assured that governors would ensure judicious utilization of the fund to ensure improved power supply in the country. Earlier, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Bio Ibrahim, had noted with displeasure that Nigeria was still battling with low power generation when countries like Russia, Ghana and South Africa had achieved stable power supply.
